Beds will be constructed with solid Yellow Pine “Furniture Grade lumber” kiln dried to a specific humidity of not more than 15%. Construction of headboard and footboard Head and footboards will be 3 ply construction made of solid 1”x 4” and 1”x 6” boards. Panels will
be glued, nailed and clamped in a hydraulic press under 140 – 180 pounds per square inch of pres- sure. Panels will be sanded and edges routed to provide a smooth finished surface and eliminate
sharp edges. Panels not assembled in this manner will not be acceptable. Construction of side rails Side Rails will be constructed of Yellow Pine 5-1/4” wide x 1-5/16” thick. Rails will have pilot holes in each end to accept two lag bolts per end. Cleats for bed support will be 1-1/2” x 1-1/2” solid wood Yellow Pine glued and nailed with 2-3/8” nails. Side rails will be sanded and routed to provide a smooth finish and eliminate sharp edges. Finish Wood components are sanded and finished with several finish options. Stains are oil based and alcohol based and lacquer topcoat is water based. Assembly and tools required Head and footboards will be attached to the side rails with 3/8” x 5” lag bolts and washers (two per end, four per side rail) set on 3 1⁄4” centers. A 9/16” socket or wrench will be required to properly tighten lag bolts. Electric impact wrench with 9/16 socket recommended for large, multiple bed installations. Four slats are attached to side rails using 1-3/4” long screws.
